 Biography

As a child growing up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina , Lori Cassell Prenner developed her passion for photography at the young age of nine. Encouraged by her father to use his 35mm to take pictures of the family pets, the seed had been planted. The love for photography and the art of telling a story through picture taking would remain with her throughout the years.

After graduating from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Lori attended Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, where she was able to study abroad in China for a summer. The seed for photography blossomed with the amazing scenic views, the exotic food, and immersion in one of the oldest thriving civilizations. Her passion for photography was rekindled there, which led to photography classes in college. While in college, Lori switched paths. She sold her camera and tossed aside the idea of pursuing her dream of becoming a professional photographer. Graduating with a degree in Psychology, Lori moved to Charleston South Carolina in 1994. “Moving to Charleston without having a camera was torture,”she says.

Shortly after moving to Charleston, Lori met her husband, with whom she had three children. “Having children definitely inspired me to pick up the camera again”, says Lori. “My favorite thing to do is have my camera with me and just get lost in the city. Before you know it, hours have gone by and you have a beautiful story to tell with photographs.”
